OS: Windows 7 x86 SP1



The latest JRE is all you should need whatever web app it's for, as it's supposed to be backwards compatible. Can't imagine why you would need different versions. I've only ever had one version installed at any one time and have yet to come across an app. that's not compatible.

Web applications needs to run applets and new jre version seems not backward compatible for these applets.

It's a real pain, but if you must: Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Default Java for Browsers> Uncheck IE. Now got to your program files and selecting the Java version you want run javacpl.exe> Advanced > Default Java for Browsers check IE. Of course to get the old (which is really the newer) version back, you have to reverse the whole deal.
