This is copy+pasted from another forum.
I can't get any help from that one so I'm trying here..

It started by having a bunch of command prompts pop up trying to do who knows what. Then a bunch of different windows came up including ones that just had question marks all over and just all kinds of different stuff.
I couldn't close it all. Loads of stuff was running.

I knew I was screwed then but the computer was going too slow to put my USB in and back anything up.

Couldn't open a lot of things like the task manager and whatnot. Surprisingly could run msconfig.

Restarted in safe mode.. okay. looking good.
when it loads up, there's nothing on the desktop but the recycle bin.

inside the recycle bin I can see plenty of files I personally deleted.

Not much appears in the start menu.
In my computer, there's plenty of folders.. but no files appear inside of any of them.

I know the files are still in them because it tells me how much memory is in them.

Absolutely nothing will show up.

I've been crying so much. This is a music studio computer that has absolutely tons of work on it and I'll be devastated if I lose it. I have plenty of it backed up but a lot of recent stuff isn't backed up entirely.

Does anyone know if there's a way I can fix this or at least get my files off of it?

edit:
so, I put a USB drive that had Yahoo's Anti-spy loaded on to it. I know the program works by just dragging the folder so I ran it. Here's a list of what it found:
Code:
Name Objects Category
PornDialer PluginAccess 2 Dialer
FakeAlert 1 Trojan
Disable Task Manager 1 Annoyance
SillyDl DNB 1 Trojan
GbDoor A 1 Trojan
Vundo 1 Trojan
Search Toolbar 1 Adware
Haxdoor E 1 Backdoor
Meldsimp 1 Trojan
I cleared it all out, but it didn't do much of any good apart from letting me use the task manager.
If I copy folders, I get the files in them. I tried something on the usb drive.
so hopefully I can put another harddrive in and get everything I need off of there because I really doubt I'll find a way to fix this.

I'm going to try and run my main virus scan on there next.. it seems virus scans never do anything at all though.. but maybe I'll get the name of the main target or .dll out of it and will be able to get it out of the registry.

edit 2:
Virus scan wouldn't run. I tried every .exe in the folder. The safe mode scanner would open but none of the buttons on it would work so I couldn't scan the computer.

Here's the hijackthis log:

End of file - 6535 bytes
not sure if that even was able to find anything since I was in safe mode and I was on the administrator account instead of the regular one. (not sure if that makes a difference)
I was able to see some files in the administrator account but I couldn't find a way to find the files from the main account.

edit 3:
Looked up every virus that anti-spy found and compiled a list of the registry keys, .dlls, and just other files into a notepad file. Going to go and manually clear them all out. Also downloaded a few scans including some specifically for Vundo since it said it found that as well. so going to run those as well..

Anyone know of a site I can post this on and get some help?

edit 4:
Tried doing the above. Not even the tiniest bit of luck came from it. Couldn't find anything in the registry that needed to be deleted. Also, the registry doesn't work on my main account but it did in the administrator one.
Anyways, the Vundo scans worked but found nothing.. and AVG + Malware bytes anti-malware or whatever it's called.. wouldn't work.

I've pretty much given up. There's nothing else that I can do..
Guess I can try and use another drive to get my files off it and wipe it for the 500th ******* time.

edit 5: (no edit button? seriously?)
Going into safe mode on the normal account rather than administrator gave me nothing but a blank locked up screen. Great.
I went back into the admin which still opened.. but still couldn't really do much.
Decided to see what would happen without safe mode enabled.
Loaded up. The background appeared but turned black shortly after. A program instantly started up and appeared on the desktop. Task manager worked so I closed a bunch of stuff.

Tried using the search to find some of my files. It won't find anything that's in the documents and settings folder.. Yet the folder itself is 80gb. I don't understand how everything can just be invisible from seeing it anywhere.

computer is pretty much ruined. guess it's going to have to be wiped.

I've had plenty of virus issues throughout the years but this has to be the most stressful one. definitely one of the worst days ever.

I guess it's over.

Not after 15 minutes, no. Reason being someone could be viewing your post and working from what you first said. If you edit in the meantime - they would not be aware of an edit since no notifications are made when that occurs. Best to make a new post to draw attention to the new information.

This is indeed curable malware on your machine, but I can't work from a HijackThis log. With today's malware, we require a more comprehensive set of logs.

Kindly follow the instructions in our pre-posting topic New Instructions - Read This Before Posting for Malware Removal Help and post the requested logs in your next reply.

If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.

Also please post the link to the other forum where you have sought assistance. It's not fair to take up 2 Helpers' time when we all volunteer to clean these machines in our spare time.
