This is one you might try at the start Free Photo Editing Software - PhotoPlus Starter Edition from Serif
This is another GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program
And this https://pixlr.com/
I don't believe they have any bloatware added but as always please take the time to check and uncheck anything you don't want.

Hi Joeten! I'm sure those are all good freeware. I just don't like what you have to do to down load them. Maybe not PUP's but some other aggravating steps in the down loads! I don't like this??

You're welcome, I have used quite a few pieces of software from Serif over the years and never paid for it once. Free Software from Serif
This is another place you can pick up freebies https://www.ashampoo.com/en/usd/lpa/gift
There are also a lot of magazines which give away software, but using the online site means you don't even need to buy the magazine Software - Products[0+TO+0]|OS+Compatibility%3dWindows+Vista|OS+Compatibility%3dWindows+7|OS+Compatibility%3dWindows+XP

Not at all, I know I wanted to give you some room to make a start and the web crawlers might start picking up the threads, so when folks make a search for software we could get a mention, that could bring some new blood and posts.

The Serif PhotoPlus is an excellent product, much better for newbies as it's not as heavyweight as Photoshop. It also integrates well with the rest of the Serif suite, DrawPlus (vector graphics) and WebPlus (Web-page designer). I was so impressed with PhotoPlus, I ended up buying it, along with the DrawPlus package

I also tried the Gimp software some time ago, it's a neat little program, but for some reason, I didn't like it - Nothing wrong with it as such, just didn't like the 'feel' or layout. I'd still recommend it to folks though
