Verizon to AOL email migration

Does anyone know, now that Verizon has moved it's email to AOL, if you drop Verizon internet and go with another provider, can you keep your Verizon email address since AOL is handling it?

Hi My AOL email address has been compromised, and spam is being sent out from my email address. I have AVG Internet Security 2011, and a full scan of the PC has revealed nothing. I suspect that the hacking has taken place at the server rather than the PC because the mails have gone to the few...
