Hello All,

If I get spam email like "[email protected]" and I want to filter all of these bot generated email out starting with newsletter...., why would my entry of "[email protected]*.*.com" not work?

Not sure you can use wildcards in Thunderbird filters.

I'd just use [email protected] as the filter criteria.

So ...

Tools > Message Filters > New ... to open the filter box.
Set filter name to [email protected] filter
Set Subject to From
Set Contains to [email protected]
Under "Move Message to" set folder to wherever you want to send these messages (usually Junk or Trash).
Click OK to create filter

I have put this into the filter, so I will let you know what happens?
Thank you.

And if you're connecting by IMAP, and your service has server-side filtering (e.g., Gmail), it makes a lot more sense to set up your filters and folders on the server side rather than in the e-mail clients.

You're welcome.

I've got a number of similar type filters set, so it should work, but please let us know if it doesn't.

It has appeared to work GaryR.
I am grateful, not having to keep on adding new bs addresses to the blocked list everyday.
