Sounds like a stuck shift key. Try the on-board keyboard or another one. Also, if there's more than one user, see if it happens to all.

That sounds like the icon has changed to be a shortcut to Bookmarks.
Rebuild the Icon Cache https://www.techuntold.com/rebuild-i...he-windows-10/
If that fails, go to Programs menu and right click the .exe for the program and Send To Desktop (Create Shortcut). Make sure that shortcut works, Then delete the non working icon on the desktop.

Hi , I have posted this before I suggest all of you make a copy and use this, it is the only proper way to delete the Icon cache allowing windows to rebuild after a compete shutdown.

Go to search and type:- cmd
Next press the ctrl +shift+enter keys on your keyboard an elevated cmd prompt will open.

Copy and paste all the below cmds into the command prompt window, press enter.

ie4uinit.exe -show

taskkill /IM explorer.exe /F (your desktop will go blank)

DEL /A /Q "%localappdata%\IconCache.db"

DEL /A /F /Q "%localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\iconcache*"

shutdown /p (your computer will shutdown completely, after this Restart your computer.
