Hi there,

I've unfortunately had problems with recording a video on my phone due to lack of storage which corrupted the file. I have been able to use some applications and online services to identify that some of the video is recoverable but then they ask for a payment to rescue it (could be a con, of course)!

Are there any video applications that would be able to fix the file, for free?

Many thanks.

What a Con! you want software that does a specific task and is quite complicated and they actually ask you to Pay for it! why isn't it FREE!!

ahem, I digress, Try Handbrake, If the video is corrupted though, there is little chance you will get anything out of it.

I'm not sure even if the paid ones will be able to recover, let alone the free ones... If the meta data of a video is corrupt, doesn't matter how many sectors you recover, it still won't help..

Haha I should probably clarify - I got a few messages like "Congratulations! We've been able to recover 1:41 of your video. However, to export, you'll need to pay 5.99" which makes me suspicious and made me wonder if there were any free options before I took the plunge.

I've used free software before like MP4Fix (application for Android) which didn't even try to recover this video. I'll give Handbrake a go though.

Yes, my concern was that the video is so damaged that it wouldn't be recoverable. Strange how it still has a similar filesize though but I guess that's just it - it's all scrambled beyond repair!

Yeah that's my thought as well but I didn't want to pay to find out it wasn't recoverable.

I have also had experience with corrupted .mp4's... and VLC has an option to scan and fix too. I have used this option and had some success with it, but I think it would depend on how 'broken' the file is.
