That's because that's exactly where it does go, and for the vast majority of users simply causes the immediate display of a Windows Save As dialog, where they can place the file on their machine wherever they want it for their later reading pleasure.

For some who don't set their browsers to ask where a file should be saved on each download, clicking the link causes an immediate "behind the scenes" download to the Downloads folder.

I hadn't noticed the download because it opened a new tab which showed about:blank and I was fixated on that. Don't usually get that!
I have the file now. Thanks!

You're welcome.

What you're reporting has been reported by others, and I've experienced it too, but not with my own files in the cloud, but no one has ever been able to definitively point to a cause or fix.

In certain ways I've come to hate offering direct download links because their behavior is directly dependent on the settings in the web browser being used. For PDFs, some people have them display right in the browser on download, others have their browser set to invoke the system PDF viewer (waves hand), others have the file go silently and directly to Downloads, others have their browser set to ask them where to save the file (waves hand again, but for a different browser).

All I can tell people is that I know the link to be accurate and that the "file at the end of the link" has been there, and downloaded successfully, on many occasions by many others.

Well, I guess if you can’t find the MS Office folder on your PC, you might as well go out and splurge on something you already have. I use Office 2007 and it sits there plain as day. “Select Language Settings.”

I have just gotten back from a Black Screen of Death [separate thread that has just been resolved]. I greatly appreciate the above suggestions.

I will pursue several of these possibilities tomorrow; may have followup inquiries.

Thank you for your help on this!

I got a free Office 365 download, thanks to my newly established affiliation with the local university. HURRAH!

Thanks for your help on this topic!

It is RESOLVED!

Well, you got Office 365 at no direct cost to you, but your university does pay Microsoft under a volume licensing arrangement so that they can supply Office 365 to faculty, staff, and students. Microsoft Office is never truly free, and never has been.

I am glad you have what you need, and were able to get it at no cost.

Please mark this topic as solved.

You're quite welcome. Someone else created the graphic I included, but since it's in the Tech Support Forum image repository there's no point in reinventing the wheel! I take no credit for that part.
