Windows 7 has approached the user share numbers set by Windows XP six years ago, suggesting that unless Microsoft executes its Windows 10 upgrade plans to perfection, Windows 7 will persist on devices long after its 2020 retirement.
At the same time, the massive number of devices running Windows 7 -- currently just over 1 billion by estimates based on Microsoft's data -- provides Microsoft with the wherewithal to quash a repeat of the 2013-2014 scramble to dump XP.
According to figures published last Wednesday by metrics vendor Net Applications, Windows 7's user share surged in June to power 67.1% of all Windows personal computers worldwide. The more-than-two-thirds mark was nearly four percentage points higher than in May and a record for Windows 7.

I'm not giving up my 7. I don't like the metro (win 8/10 ) look.

Hey...whatever happened to win 9?

Sooner or later everyone will be on Windows 10 in some type or form.

Apparently Win-10 comes with a 30-day 'Roll-back' feature, for those that don't like it or it doesn't worker properly on their PC - Link.

There's also this tool to roll it back: EaseUS System GoBack - Best Windows RollBack Alternative to Downgrade Windows 10 to Windows 7/8

Warborg,
Windows 10 does not look like Windows 8/8.1. They have combined Win 7 and Win 8 for a much better interface. I'm not sure how much I like it yet since it's only on a laptop that I don't use that much, but the look is more like 7 than 8.

It is much more like 7 . . I wish they had included the option to do away with the tiles, but otherwise, so far, I like it

I 'am lucky enough to have a desktop which has win 7 and not been used in a while and another laptop again not been used in a while, But that also has my VM of XP, so I might leave it and just use the laptop.

Bo, you can use the tool here to download it and burn to a disc or put it on a usb drive https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10
I stuck it on a disc, oh and you can download both versions if you have media big enough.

It's 3GB so could take a little while if the servers are like yesterday.

Mmmmm, I noticed MS was lots slow earlier, when I had a couple of Win-7 updates to install - I might just leave it for a day or 2, the odds are it'll finally finish DLing right at my bed-time

So far no problems, definitely prefer it to 8 and not going back and forth between the guis...

Amazing that the upgrade was free too, I'm still kinda blown away by that

Why doesn't Microsoft offer an official verified torrent option, the same as Linux? It would take most of the load off their servers and speed things up for everyone.

Seems a bit faster and more responsive . .

I went to fry's and checked out their computer that had Win 10. For the few minutes of messing with it...it did seem better then win 8/8.1

It still has the metro/tiles in the start menu but overall gave a feel of a modded win 7.

I do have a smartphone but I don't want apps on my computer.

My wife wants a desktop of her own...we will wait about a month or so...maybe they will fix a few bugs by then.
