Wondering what our resident petro-brain thinks about putting Exxon CEO in charge of diplomacy?

And while we're at it - what about Trump's other cabinet picks? The top 12 nominees are all middle aged, mostly very wealthy, white guys. So much for standing up for the working stiffs. Heard this ditty: A billionaire picking billionaires to change a system that made them billionaires. Good luck with that...

As they say: May you live in interesting times.

Tillerson might just be the pick of the litter . . which is not saying much, considering !

If his expertise negotiating commercial deals can translate to success negotiating foreign policy, he just might be good. I actually knew him when he was in Yemen and I was in Cairo. We both were looking at some common properties in Saudi ( which fell thru ), but we did negotiate a Joint Venture in Somalia ( then the civil war ruined that)

We met again in Moscow when we were both chasing deals just as the Soviet Union collapsed and everything went into chaos. He chose to focus on Eastern Russia while we worked on Western deals.

He is personally engaging and clearly one smart cookie! You do not get to head up the Double Cross gang without having major smarts!

He is not a follower. so I have to wonder how he and Trump will get along. He has different views on the effectiveness of sanctions, TPP and trade deals in general than Trump. Could be interesting

Mad Dog Mattis... Congress is going to get so many knife hands

He also talked Trump out of torture so there is that... but it is going to be nice to have a military minded individual in charge of the military...

My biggest concern is the VA chief and the spine chilling rumor that it was going to be Palin

She's about 20 years past her prime as far as he's concerned.

I have two fundamentals for a functioning democracy: the peaceful transition of power and civilian control of the military. Without those two things firmly entrenched in the society - dictatorship is more than likely.

Yep . . I think civilian control of the military is critical . . even though it is a Marine, it bothers me!

It's his popularity with the troops of all the braches... plus, as scary as a former General in control... its still ultimately... shivers... Trump that is in control
