I made similar comments about 'news' articles on TV here earlier this evening, any mention of the 49/50 dead in a bus crash in Brazil in the last day where you are?

Maybe it's only classified as 'news' if it concerns celebs, terrorism or conjecture/crystal ball -gazing nowadays.

Got that on Brazil raises toll of bus accident to 54 dead, 10 injured.

I still don't see anything on the Novodevichy Convent fire.......maybe tomorrow.

10 survivors found so far eh, that's higher than I'd expected given that the bus plunged close to a mile down a big hillside.

Perhaps the news agencies have filled their daily quota on Muscovite/Russian stories.

I'm guessing the taller of the towers is what is on fire

Still nothing from Yahoo or MSN about the fire. Last report I read was that the scaffolding surrounding the building was on fire and the building is not really damaged.......

I think they'd be hard pressed to find any workers to build anything like that today. OK.....European workers maybe, American workers no way.

Nice pic, Rich...... I'll never get to see any of those wonderful structures in Europe but my g-daughter will when she travels to Spain on a school trip.

Moscow has so many beautiful structures that it would take forever to see them all . . and all really old!

Quote:
A fire has broken out in the bell tower of Moscow's Novodevichy Convent, one of the Russian capital's most noted visitor attractions.

Russian news reports said the blaze broke out late Sunday in wooden scaffolding surrounding the tower as it undergoes restoration. The Interfax news agency quoted Alexander Gavrilov, the deputy head of the emergencies ministry for Moscow, as saying the tower itself didn't suffer significant damage and the fire's spread had been halted around midnight.

The octagonal tower, more than 70 meters tall, dates from the late 1600s.

The convent, which sits above an oxbow turn in the Moscow River, is noted both for its buildings and its cemetery, where many of Russia's most celebrated figures are buried, including Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev and Russia's first president, Boris Yeltsin.

Aha...I see. I must be relying on the wrong sources.....

I watched a video of a drone flight over the bell tower and there is some damage....
