Ok I saw on the news about that doctor that was returned to the US down in Atlanta, and I even watched it on tv, now I'm not one to be afraid of anything alive or dead, but this scares the hell out of me.
the CDC is in charge, is it really safe to let people that moved anthrax in a zip lock bag handle a disease that could wipe us all out?

And our worst enemy is ourselves too
Forest Gump said "stupid is as stupid does", whoever made that line to that movie had no idea how true to life it really is

Internet Scientific Publications > Reston {Virginia}ís Hot Zone -- 20 Years Later
Quote:
Abstract

In 1989, Reston, VA -- one of the most famous U.S. planned communities located about 10 miles from Washington DC -- stood at the epicenter of a potential biological disaster. This well-known story was narrated by Richard Preston in a bone chilling account related to the recognition and containment of a devastating tropical filovirus at a monkey facility -- the Reston Primate Quarantine Unit. This article reviews the antecedents leading up to the event, the role of the US Army in detecting Ebola and deploying a veterinary containment team and subsequent events since the initial outbreak.
PS - This is the first time the virus has ever been in the United States.

Myth, fact or whatever, once mistake and were looking at The Stand
All it will take is one mutation and Ebola is airborne, or something else
And as far as I'm concerned after the last scandal the CDC had, I wouldn't trust them with a common cold, let alone something deadly

Myths and misunderstandings about Ebola in the United States
Quote:
...
Now that Ebola appears to have the potential to affect Americans, we really care. Not about Ebola or the people itís affecting, per se, but mostly about ourselves and whether we are going to die of Ebola. The Internet has been teeming with misinformation, advising people to stay away from keyboards and money.

Letís start with the basics: Ebola is spread only through bodily fluids from an infected person, or from objects such as needles that have been in contact with infected bodily fluids. Ebola is not spread through air, food, water, or by touching money and keyboards. The doomsday scenario of Ebola being brought to the U.S. and spread via passengers on airplanes is very unlikely, unless an infected and symptomatic person is allowed to board and then swaps spit with or bleeds on fellow passengers.

If Ebola is spread through bodily fluids, why donít people just avoid contacting bodily fluids of the infected? Scientists have explained that there are sociocultural factors contributing to the deadliness of the disease in West Africa. The countries in which the current outbreak is taking place -- Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea -- have never experienced this kind of outbreak before, so doctors may not be trained to diagnose or treat the disease, and citizens may not recognize its symptoms. Additionally, families may engage in burial ceremonies that require them to touch the infected bodies of the recently dead, which can spread the disease. In some areas, citizens have fought outsidersí public health interventions because they are afraid that aid workers will bring the disease in or have heard rumors that they will perform unauthorized treatments or quarantines that hurt the community.

We have daily flights between Houston and Lagos . . and have had for years. The risk of someone coming in on one of those likely far outweighs the risk of these two considering the precautions being taken with them

American doctor Kent Brantly and North Carolina missionary Nancy Writebol, both of whom contracted Ebola while treating infected Liberian patients, have been released from an Atlanta hospital. Writebol was discharged from Emory University Hospital on Tuesday and Brantly was released on Thursday.

“Today is a miraculous day,” Brantly said at an Emory news conference. “I am thrilled to be alive, to be well and to be reunited with my family.”

The Texas doctor appeared near death weeks ago after contracting the disease, which has killed 1,350 people in the four African nations affected by the contagion. He was flown back to the United States from Liberia in a special transport plane that included an isolation unit and arrived at Emory on Aug. 2.
Looks like they had the cure after all . . rumor is that both will be moving to Virginia Beach to live with wolves ? ?

The cure could be a powerful military weapon.
If only the U.S. has access, everyone else is a potential victim.

Actually ...

"In responding to the request received this weekend from a West African nation, the available supply of ZMapp is exhausted," said a statement on the Mapp Biopharmaceutica website on Monday.

(CNN reported that Liberia was to receive the sample doses.)

"Any decision to use ZMapp must be made by the patientsí medical team," it said, adding that the drug was "provided at no cost in all cases."

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have repeatedly stressed that the drugís effects are unknown, since it has not been through a process of rigorous clinical trials.

There is no medicine or vaccine for Ebola on the world market.

Now there are reports of suspected sufferers in England, and at least one with the symptoms in Canada.
