I have been noticing that my phone will open to odd apps that I did not open, a few times, calls were made that I did not initiate, and my contacts is filled with "unknown name" listings. I think that my phone might be hacked or have a virus.

I ran avg and avast security programs and neither of them picked anything up when I did a scan. Can anyone offer me some advice as to what I can do to protect my phone and also, if is the case, get rid of these problems on my phone; apps I can download, or actions that I might be able to undertake to insure my cell phone security?

If AVG or Avast did not find anything, there's a good chance that the applications you have installed on the system are considered "safe" even though they are performing malicious.

I would recommend going through each application and checking it's permissions to see which applications have access to things like the Phone. In Android 6.0+ you can disable these permissions per application.

I noticed 2 downloads that were not listed in my app listings, Samsung Billing and Instant App. I saw them downloading but when I checked my apps, they were not listed there. I think that it may be a virus or malware, please off advice on this.

Samsung Billing is for Samsung phones and should be there.

As for Instant App, I am not familiar with it. Is there an uninstall option?

Hi there,

I also have a Samsung droid phone. Do this, download an un-installer file and see if you're able to un-install Instant App via the un-installer program.

With regards to the pop ups, it's possible that the apps that are installed on your phones have the setting, "Allow Notifications" turned on. Multiple pop ups were also showing up on my phone until I went through each app and disabled the "Allow Notification" setting. Now that I have went through each app and disabled the "Allow Notifications', I don't get any of the pop ups showing on my phone any more.

Do this, go to settings -> Sounds and notifications -> App notifications and then go through each app and disable the "Allow Notifications" settings. See if this helps resolve the issue.

Hope everything works out well for you.

I concur. This helped me quite a lot when I was trying to regain space from the blatant bloatware on my phone. You can't get rid of it because Android and Google seem to be joined somehow. Uninstall one and another complains that it was dependant on it. Contract nearly finished so then I can root it, can't wait!
