This is my first smartphone. I have never used an OS other than Windows. I don't know how secure using email would be. If I do decide to use it for email I would have to get a new account to avoid compromising my main account.

On Win 10 I use Chrome for browsing and MPCHC for watching videos. I use the player and codecs from CCCP. Is there an Android video player that can use regular codecs? Anything else I can do with this phone?

Email is just as secure on your Android phone. No problems using it on your phone. Just make sure not to download any unknown applications to your phone.

Chrome is available on Android and as for codecs, try VLC Player for Android.

You need to download applications through the Google Play Store. Otherwise you open yourself up to malware issues. Open a Google Account.

I just moved here so when I tried logging into Google it locked me out of my email. Oh well. Atleast it wasn't my main account. Google suggested I re try from my previous location 2,000 miles away. Kinda funny and not funny at the same time.

In any case, thank you for the info. I may try again later with a new email address.

There is no problem in using email for your play store account. Although if you are not comfortable then create a new email and use it. You can do a lot of things with you android device.

I did create a new email account at gmail. I signed up at Google Play and downloaded VLC. Is there an easy way to move pics and vids to and from the phone? I have about 4GB free space (of 8GB total) in the phone and 29GB free on an sd card.

Are there noob android sites I need to read through? This is my first non Windows OS.

You can use Microsoft OneDrive as a cloud based storage system and move files between the phone and PC.

You can also connect your phone to your PC with a USB cable, then use the file manager to copy files over.
