Hi.
My friend and I have been having a network issue for quite some time and have not been able to figure out the problem.
The problem is this: we cannot connect to each other in games when using Hamachi or Tunngle. Also when attempting to play GTA IV online together without Hamachi or Tunngle, we cannot connect to each others games. When my friend is on a public server, I can join but he is removed from the server. When I am on a server, he simply cannot join.
This problem becomes ever more weird due to the fact this this issue is not affecting my connectivity with any other people. In other words, I can connect to anyone else though Hamachi, Tunngle and GTA with ease. My friend can also do the same with other people. It's just that when me and him try, it always fails.
Port forwarding did not solve the problem with either GTA IV, Hamachi or Tunngle.
The three applications, Hamachi, Tunngle and GTA IV Online, are the only times when this problem occurs, so far. There are many other online games that we can actually play together with no problem.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. I have been looking this issue up for ages, with no luck.
Thank you in advance.
Interesting. Do either of you have access to a laptop or other machine at either location to try and test the connection with? Would be interested to see if it's just those specific machines or if there's a greater issue involving where the houses are located on those specific networks.
I have a brother living in the same house who also cannot connect to my friend on his own machine. My friend also had another machine that also had the same problem.
It has to be a network problem :/
Also, I should note that is used to actually work. Before around November, we had no issues.
Well, that means the issue is somewhere between the router in his house and the router in yours. Other than that, I can't think of much to narrow down the problem at the moment.
Has the router or modem in either house been changed since you could connect successfully?
Both our modems are the same as they always have been.
Also, I have posted the same question on some other forums in order for a higher chance of replies. I thought that I may as well share them here, if you choose to read.
Are the computers you are using for the games thru hamachi using DHCP to obtain an ip address automatically from the router or hamachi inerface or do they have a fixed ip address?
Since you are posting on multiple forums, I suggest adding to each of them that this is the entire location, not individual machines. That is highly relevant to the issue, and I didn't see reference to it in any of the other posts.
My apologies. I made posts on multiple websites because I have tried to seek help before on other forum websites, with little to no replies. This way, there might be a higher chance of finding out what the problem is, and maybe even being able to fix it.
Also, this can help others if they have the same problem too.
If you go to start>control panel>network and sharing centre>change adapter settings
Right click Local Area Connection(wired ethernet) or Wireless Network Connections whichever you are using.
Click Properties Choose Internet Protocol Version TCPIPv4 click Properties
Check if Obtain an Ip address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically is selected then you are using DHCP.
You would need to set a fixed(static) ip address and dns server addresses.
By clicking Use the following ip address and set an ip address outside the scope of the DHCP server on your router.
For instance if your router ip address is 192.168.1.1(yours maybe different to this example) and the DHCP scope is from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.50 and you would set an ip address to 192.168.1.51 or above.
you then choose Use the following DNS server addresses and enter your isp's DNS servers here if you know them or your router ip address or local dns servers to your country.
An example below for what you need to set your addresses may be different but the subnet mask will be the same for private addresses used in router's. The DNS servers i used are google public dns just for example if in the USA.
When you have DHCP enabled it makes portforwarding difficult because you can only portforward to a single address and when you re-boot your router you may well be assigned a different ip address to the one listed in the portforwarding rules making the rule fail because that ip address is no longer in use or another computer has been assigned that ip address so any forwarding requests will be going to the wrong device.
No worries you are receiving help now hopefully we can help you.
I was following your comment above but I have some questions.
What IP address do I use? I have an IPv4 Address (xx.x.x.xx) and my routers IP (xxx.xxx.xxx.xx).
I presumed that I'd put in the routers IP address, but then the DHCP ranges only fitted with my IPV4 Address (the range was xx.x.x.1 - xx.x.x.136).
Also, I do not know what to put into the Default gateway section. On the routers page, it says xx.x.x.138/24.
(I hide the numbers in my IP addresses but I'm not really sure if it's necessarily to do that)
If it is a 192. address for your router ip we all have them those addresses i gave were examples and said yours maybe different.
You would set your ip address xx.x.x.137 or above and that is outside your scope of 1 and 136.
The default gateway is your router ip address if you do an ipconfig /all and look on your connection either Local Area Connection or Wireless Netork connection and look at default gateway that will be the router ip address and be used for default gateway.
I filled it out all correctly, but the following message comes up. After pressing OK, I am disconnected from the internet. I can revert back by ticking 'Obtain an IP address automatically'.
Here is the message:
"Warning - multiple default gateways are intended to provide redundancy to a single network (such as an intranet or the Internet). They will not function properly when the gateways are on two separate, disjoint networks (such as one on your intranet and one on the Internet). Do you want to save this configuration?"
I will try this out later, but for now, I am working on another forum to try to fix this. Thanks for your replies, and I'll get back to you later with the results.
