OS: Windows 7

Hi everyone. I have been wondering for a while now whether I was ready for the jump into a security position. It's something I have always wanted to do but I'm only in my 3rd semester for an AS in Information technology with a focus in cyber security. Just curious on what the best way to kind of test myself and see if I have what it takes.

A little background might help. I was a Sat. Tech in the army for 4 years. Got a job at a hospital help desk where I withered away for 3 years and now have a System Admin job at a pharmaceuticals company. I handle everything at the moment. From our VMWare environment to networking, server maintenance, cable runs, helpdesk the whole lot of it.

My worry is im not going to get good at ONE thing if I keep this up. I just get by on it all. Any advise would really be helpful.
Sorry if this is'nt the norm here.

The best engineers are the best because they don't focus on one particular area mate :) so don't think that being the one stop IT guy has hindered your progress. I guarantee those skills will come in useful at some point.

Cyber security is a very broad term that covers a LOT of disciplines from network security to application security to SIEM analysts to pen testers, so it's hard to say what would be a good test for you.

If you have any idea of what sort of thing you would like to do in the security sector, let me know and I'll post some resources for you to look at.

Any other questions, feel free to give me a shout.
