Win 7 Pro-SP1
Acer Aspire laptop - 5738Z
Pent Dual core T4200 @2.00Ghz
Installed Mem: 4.00GB
64x OS
---------------------------------------------------
I’ve been experiencing several odd problems with my Acer laptop recently. I have tons of laptop specs listed below.

-Sometimes but not always when I turn on the laptop & begins loading normally. Many of the default programs begin to launch like Skype etc.. Then I abruptly get the dreaded BSOD. I was scared at first. It said something like “SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION” (not sure if that is exactly it). Down below it said something about a memory dump…20% & climbing til 100%. Then it seemed like the PC would reboot & start up fine. **Any idea what that is all about?

-Occasionally when I’m moving, creating file, renaming & seemingly making any changes to folder or files nothing happens. For instance you go to a folder – new folder – name it –save – but it does not appear. You click away from the folder, then back to it & presto the folder shows up. ** Any ideas why this happens?

-I recently have been having an issue when I plug in my Camcorder via USB to transfer files to my Laptop the PC doesn’t detect the Camcorder. I thought it was the Camcorder but when I unplugged the USB mouse & plugged it in the mouse was dead. I plug the mouse back to its original port & now that port is dead too. The only fix to all these problems was a reboot.
**Any ideas why this happens?….

-The vast majority of the time when I select Reboot or Shut down the Laptop gets stuck at “Logging off”. I’ve let it still for 45 mins with no change. I looked at the blue light indicating the system is working on something & there is nothing but an intermittent flash of light. I have to hold down the power button to make it shut down.
**What might cause that hang up?

I listed all these problems because they all seemed to start happening about the same time. Approximately 2 months ago. I thought they might be connected. I’m not sure when I downloaded SP1. Could that be the root of the trouble. I have several pictures from task manager to show the status of the PC after a reboot. Maybe something can be learned there.

*** I takes forever for the laptop to completely boot up. I think it’s close to 7-10 mins until the blue processing light finally slows down.
**That can’t be normal?

I’d appreciate any help I can get. Sorry for the long post.
Thanks!

Can you please provide us a crash report as described here? It'll give us a good start to see what the cause is.

I have the 2 reports your requested zipped & attached to this thread. Please look over my crash report. It seems that every time I turn the laptop off completely, like when I'm going home, Then turn it back on it almost finishes the Boot-up that suddenly crashes. it gets the BSOD with the memory counting to 100%. (I took a picture of the screen if that helps) Then it reboots automatically. When it reboots it says an "error occurred" how would I like to proceed. I select load with Win7. Now this time it loads fine. Not sure what the problem is. I have the other answers you asked for below.
Thanks!

Hi -

21 BSODs dating back to August 2010; 16 of the 21 occurred in the last 45 days.

The BSODs all have the same bugcheck and are rather inconclusive -

0x3b (0xc000001d,,,) = exception raised -- attempt to execute illegal program instruction, e.g., division by zero

The Event Viewer logs show problems with Intuit Quickbooks and Networking issues among others.

Assuming software is the cause, my money would be on one of these 2 drivers. They both pre-date Windows 7 RTM; the Broadcom driver must be updated. Windows 7 SP1 may also have issues with encryption app. I suggest removal -
Code:
FSPFltd.sys Thu Jun 05 13:37:17 2008 (4848244D) - Hide Folders file encryption driver

k57nd60a.sys Sun Apr 26 07:23:05 2009 (49F44419) - Broadcom NetLink Gigabit Ethernet
http://sysnative.com/0x1/DriverReference.html#FSPFltd.sys
http://sysnative.com/0x1/DriverReference.html#k57nd60a.sys

The Driver Verifier may help flag the rogue driver - Driver Verifier - sysnative.com - MVP

I merged your 2 threads. Please reply to this one in the future. Thank you.

Regards. . .

Thanks so much for the in depth response. To be honest that is all a little over my head. It seems like the issue might be from 2 sources. The Quickbooks program we use at work & the new SP1 for Win7 I recently downloaded. I'll take the info you provided & show it to my IT staff & see what they think. I appreciate all your help.
Thanks!
