Heya
I've been using this machine for about 3-4 years now, I think. I'm not completely sure how old it is. xD
Anyways, a while ago, It started crashing and throwing up Blue Screens of death. I did a system restore, didn't help. So I reformatted my computer. I hope that won't throw off anything in diagnosing.
Anyways, I reformatted my computer, and it got better.
Pre-reformat, it would show a blank screen when booting. Nothing on it. I'd have to press esc repeatedly when booting to actually begin the boot. Then it would prompt to run in safe mode or not, then boot up again, prompt again, sometimes I'd hit F11 and run Home Vista (recovered), progresses slightly then boots again. Occasionally it would flash a BSOD. It would take about half an hour before it actually boots up properly, and then as long as my computer is kept on it wouldn't crash. Often.
Post-Reformat, It would do the whole startup boot/reboot, but it would be 10 minutes tops. It still throws up BSODS if i seem to overload the computer or something. And if it was a video driver issue, wouldn't it be fixed after reformatting? Anyways, zipped files and Questions:
Code:
╖ OS - Vista/ Windows 7? Vista
╖ x86 (32-bit) or x64? 32- bit
╖ What was original installed OS on system? Same, I believe
╖ Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? I think it was pre-installed
╖ Age of system (hardware): at least three years
╖ Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS? Unless reformat counts, not that I remember
╖ CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 6000+
╖ Video Card: (upgraded to) Nvidia 240
╖ MotherBoard: Not sure... Theres a sticker on the bottom that says AMD 64, if that's any help. :D
╖ Power Supply - brand & wattage: Unknown, and I really don't feel like opening my computer to look

Hi -

I believe RAM is bad or unknown hardware failure affecting RAMs ability to properly hold kernel code.

Did you upgrade RAM? 3 GB RAM configuration -
- 2x1 GB
- 2x512 MB

If RAM was upgraded, take out the 2x512; see if system stabilizes.

Test the 4 RAM sticks - run memtest86+ - https://www.techsupportforum.com/2863029-post5.html

Run chkdsk /r
Run HDD diags - https://www.techsupportforum.com/2828431-post7.html

It'll take a while to get through all the Updates until i can get SP2. Do i have to burn the .iso's if I have an extractor, namely 7-Zip?

You can burn the ISO using ImgBurn - The Official ImgBurn Website

2x-click on zip file to open/ extract contents. No 3rd party app needed.

Well, it seems my RAM was not upgraded. The 3 gb it has was included in the computer. Theres a sticker on my computer that says 3072 mb of Memory that I missed.
Well, memtest is running right now, so time to wait.

OK... glad to hear RAM is original.

Gook Luck with memtest. Be sure to check each stick separately; alternate the slots.

OS: Vista SP1

I'm going to. Or I was. Now it won't even boot properly. I've been installing the updates for the computer, and its stuck in a reboot loop. If i let it boot up normal, it says "Configuring Update 3 of 3 0%, then reboots. I tried going into safe mode, but it does the same thing. :/
Its been doing this for the past two days
