Hi all,

My computer BSOD's and shuts down after a few minutes of running a game. After this it wouldn't boot Windows and went to the recovery menu, but it did boot in Safe Mode. I managed to do a System Restore which recovered it, but when I had another go the same thing happened. I used BlueScreenView to have a look at the error file and it was pointing at ntoskrnl.exe, I had a look on Google but didn't find much to help me. Apart from this it has run with no problems so far.

The relevant files are attached, if I have got anything wrong or you want any more please let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would like to avoid this happening again.

Computer details:
Advent DT1413 ( see here)
Windows 7 64 bit, as purchased by me from retailer
Approx 1 year old
All hardware as sold

Hi and welcome to TSF,

7 useful (+1 corrupt) crash dumps of 4 different types, uptimes from 29 seconds to 17 hours 55 minutes.
Quote:
STOP 0x0000001A: MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
Usual causes: Device driver, memory, kernel

STOP 0x000000F4: CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION
Usual causes: ??

STOP 0xC000021A: STATUS_SYSTEM_PROCESS_TERMINATED
STOP 0xC000021A: WINLOGON_FATAL_ERROR (Changed in Win8 DP SDK v8.0)
Usual causes: User-mode device driver, system service, or third-party application, Mismatched system files

STOP 0x00000116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR
Usual causes: Video driver, overheating, bad video card, ?BIOS, ?Power to card
The above makes me think that if any one driver is the cause of this, it might the Daemon Tools driver highlighted below. In any case, you need to try to update as many of the pre 2011 drivers as you can. Links below to help find the source of the 3rd party drivers.

AVG and Symantec/Norton should both be fully removed during the testing period, either or both may be implicated in some of the problems hinted at in the dumps. AVG Remover: AVG | Download tools and utilities Norton Removal tool: https://www-secure.symantec.com/nort...home&version=1

Many thanks Satrow. In the meantime I have tried to go through some of my drivers and update what I can find, I had another go at running the programmes in question to see if they would stay up...they didn't. But at least I can reproduce the error I suppose. Recovering Windows is not that easy, the previous times I have just been continuously system restoring and startup repairing until I get a breakthrough. But it does work in Safe Mode so I am there for now. (if anyone knows what I am doing wrong here it would be greatly appreciated!)

In any case, I did a bit more Googling and suspicion seemed to fall on Daemon Tools. I will get to work on what you have found and update when I have done.

Thanks again.

Quick update, after many more hours of repairing and restoring, I give up for the night, come back this morning and it boots first time. If that makes sense to anyone else then please enlighten me...

I'll press on with the drivers, keep everything crossed and update later.

Ok...I went through all of my installed programmes and got rid of all the stuff I didn't use. Norton and AVG are gone and I deleted and reinstalled Daemon Tools. For a little while I thought that had done it, but it crashed again. Miraculously though Windows booted normally afterwards and I didn't need to repair it like before. I re-ran the tools from the original post but I don't know if that will be very helpful to anyone. I think Driver Verifier will have to be my next step tomorrow.

The latest dump collected still shows the Symantec, AVG and DaemonTools as installed so it looks like it's outdated already.

You can use DriverView to check currently loaded drivers, run it and set View to hide Microsoft/Windows drivers so it only shows the 3rd party and non-signed drivers (ignore any that start with dump_). You'll need to select the column for Modified date to check the age of the drivers. DriverView: Loaded Windows Drivers List

Hi again. I'm not sure what happened with that previous dump but AVG and Norton are definitely gone. I updated what I could find and had another attempt but the error still occurs. The minidumps are identical to before (attached), and I've also attached what Driver View shows me (3rd party drivers). There's not a lot in there and I've looked for updates to all the pre-2012 ones without success. If any of those are likely to be causing a problem then I will have another search for that, but I am starting to suspect that the game itself might be at fault, particularly because everything else works with no problems.

If anyone can see what might be causing a problem here then please let me know, or I can provide further information if it would help. Otherwise I think I will move on and look elsewhere for a cause.

Thanks

I guess you tried updating via Device Manager, that's not a recommended method, better to find out what the drivers are here: Driver Reference Table

netr28ux.sys Ralink-A MEDIATEK COMPANY
HECIx64.sys https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx try the Intel Driver Update Utility linked in the top banner
L1C62x64.sys Drivers for Atheros L1C and Windows 7
Uninstall DaemonTools to test (dtsoftbus01.sys).
