I had a new BSOD this evening which occurred while I had left my PC unattended. It's a Windows 10 (64-bit) desktop PC and I have run the recommended utility, the output of which I am attaching to this post. The PC originally came with an earlier version of Windows (7 I think) pre-installed but has since been upgraded to Windows 8 and now Windows 10. The computer is about 5 years old. More in-depth info here (from Berlarc Advisor):-

Hi. . .

Is this system brand new? From the info posted in post #1:
Quote:
Installed: 02/07/2017 15:05:22
In USA, that's July 2, 2017. So the system is just over 6 weeks old??

If this is the case - return it and demand a new system immediately otherwise you may be in for many frustrating days++ ahead as the BSOD frequency increases and slowly drives you nuts.

The bugcheck on the lone dump submitted was 0xc5 - driver attempted to corrupt the system pool (special area of reserved memory).

The probable cause included ntfs.sys - the Microsoft Windows File System driver. Whenever ntfs.sys is seen, there's a good chance that the HDD is somehow involved - but not always.

Run chkdsk /r on EACH drive letter

Run HDD Diagnostics - SeaTools for DOS, LONG test - https://www.sysnative.com/forums/har...agnostics.html

Obtain the chkdsk results from the Event Viewer Application Log + post the results in your next post.

We need to test all 3rd party drivers as there could be a driver "hiding" under ntfs.sys.

Run chkdsk + SeaTools first, then run Driver Verifier.

Driver Verifier must run for at least 24 hours. You can use the system while it's running but you may notice periods of sluggish response. This is perfectly normal while Driver Verifier is running.

Save your work often because if D/V detects a 3rd party driver violation, it will force a BSOD immediately. This is Driver Verifier's job.

https://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...ed-473665.html

If a BSOD occurs under D/V, please get the dump file (\windows\minidump - the file name contains the date); copy it to documents folder; zip it up and attach to post. You cannot zip the dump up in the \windows\minidump directory.

Regards. . .

I think the date your are referring to was probably when the last major update was done to Windows. I've had another couple of BSODs this weekend and created a new post about this as I though the one I posted here had been resolved after I removed Winpcap (a suggested possible cause for previous BSODs). I'll run the tests you have suggested and then report back.

Hi. . .

The 2 dumps unfortunately were not very helpful to us.

Please run Driver Verifier - https://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...ed-473665.html

Let it run for 24 hours minimum.

If Driver Verifier flags a 3rd party driver, it will BSOD your system immediately, so be sure to save any work very frequently. A VERIFIER_ENABLED memory dump will [hopefully] contain the name of the offending 3rd party driver's name.

If no 3rd party driver is named, we then know the cause of the VERIFIER_ENABLED BSOD is "unknown hardware failure".

I had another BSOD this morning, while trying to read these instructions, so I switched on Driver Verifier (except for Concurrency Stress Test, which wasn't on the list of available options). Good job I created a restore point first, because my PC had another BSOD, this time immediately when Windows started to load. I am attaching the minidump file as requested. I can't run the other program that you recommended (from an iso on a CD) because having checked the BIOS on my computer, it doesn't give me an option to enable my computer to boot from a disc drive.

Hi. . .

chkdsk looked good. A lot of clean-up, but no bad sectors.

Very nice job with Driver Verifier.

That indicates that Driver Verifier flagged a boot driver.

This 3rd party driver is the cause of the VERIFIER_ENABLED BSOD -
Code:
bksvdrvr.sys Wed Sep 02 05:36:17 2009 (4A9E3C91)
It is a Windows 7 era driver. It's likely too old for Windows 10.

Scarce info on it, as all I was able to ascertain is that it's a "Jungo · WinDriver Device Driver"

Click on the Products tab - MediaCore - Infotainment Multimedia and Connectivity Middleware |

Do you have any of those products installed?

If so, update the installation or better yet - remove it.

To make sure we have the correct driver info, please go to \windows\system32\drivers and scroll down to bksvdrvr.sys - check Properties, Details to see if any further info is available on it. Thank you.

Regards. . .

I'm not sure what this driver is for as I don't have any of the listed products on my PC as far as I am aware. I have renamed the driver with a .OLD extension to disable it, on the assumption that if there is something that does need it, an error message will pop up at some stage. I guess it's just a matter of watching and waiting now?

Try downloading Lazysoft Recovery Suite. Run it to make sure the whole boot routine is clean and operational. Hope it helps. I keep a USB stick with this suite on hand when Windows 10 loading fails.

I think the old driver referred to above may be something to do with one of the noise analysis programs I have on my computer (which I use when working at home to analyse recordings made in connection with my local government employment in Environmental Health). I think I'll maybe send the company, Brüel and Kjćr, www.bksv.com, a support message this week to see if they can confirm this and if so, what they recommend.

Well, I had hoped this problem had been resolved as I haven't had a BSOD since disabling the bksv driver, but unfortunately I've had another BSOD this evening. I'm uploading the system analysis file with the latest information.

I have a slight suspicion that my recent BSODs may have had something to do with Bitdefender as they seemed to start around the time I reinstalled BD. I replaced it with VIPRE Advanced Security 2017 about a week ago, so it's now a question of waiting to see if I have any more BSODs. I have also reinstalled some of the other programs that I thought might be implicated, including the free version of Malwarebytes.

Well at the risk of tempting fate, I can say that things are looking much better since replacing Bitdefender with Vipre Advanced Security. No BSODs since the ones listed below:-

Error: DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION
Bug check description: This is the general bug check code for fatal errors found by Driver Verifier.
The driver called MmMapIoSpace without having locked down the MDL pages. The physical pages represented by the physical address range being mapped must have been locked down prior to making this call. This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: bksvdrvr.sys .

Hi -

The latest dump was not much help except to possibly indicate that unknown hardware failure is at play; not sure.

Let's test RAM - memtest86+ - run 1 stick at a time; alternate the slots - https://www.sysnative.com/forums/har...memtest86.html

Let's also try to rule out hardware failure. See if Driver Verifier flags any 3rd party drivers.

https://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...ed-473665.html

Let it run for at least 24 hours. If BSOD occurs while D/V is running, upon re-boot, go to \windows\minidump - get the latest dump (filename contains the date); copy to Documents or Desktop; zip it up; attach to your next post. Windows will not allow you to zip up the dump while it resides in \windows\minidump directory (so it has to be copied elsewhere, then zipped).

Regards. . .

jcgriff2
