OS: Windows 7 x64

╖ OS - Windows 7
╖ x64
╖ What was original installed OS on system? OEM came with Vista, later upgraded to Windows 7 x86, recently to Windows 7 x64
╖ full retail version
╖ Age of system (hardware) Main system was purchased 2007, DVD drives, motherboard original equipment. Two new HDD, Seagate 2T & WD 3T. Recently upgraded memory from 3GB to 6GB (with OS install), 2 OEM 1 GB sticks, 2 PNY 2GB sticks
╖ Age of OS installation - x64 OS installed 1 week ago

╖ CPU - Intel Core2 Quad CPU @ 2.40 GHZ
╖ Video Card - Nvidia 8800 GTS
╖ MotherBoard - OEM
╖ Power Supply - Coolermaster 650 Bronze (just installed)

╖ System Manufacturer - HP
╖ Exact model number - HP Media Center PC m8150n

We were getting BSODs in Windows 7 x86. System was old, lots of downloads. Figured a clean install was in order. So we upgraded the Hard Drives, and did a full install of windows 7 x64 on the new disks. Got help from Microsoft, because the retail version we had was for an upgrade, not a fresh install. Got through that, no problem.

Downloaded fresh x64 drivers for video and the WACOM Intuous 3 tablet we use for input.

BSODs are now worse than ever.

Removed the video drivers, monitor driver (Samsung Syncmaster 2494), running with Windows drivers. No change. BSODs even when system is idle. BSODs in Safe Mode.

Never had a problem like this before.

We need help!

Thank you.

Recommendations:
You have a wireless USB network adapter that may cause problems; USB wireless network adapters are inherently unstable because USB ports cannot provide the power to properly support a wireless network device. Consider replacing the device with a PCI wireless network adapter.

A number of .tmp drivers show up in your driver list. That may indicate a malicious security item on the system, e.g. a virus.

Crashes primarily indicate a memory fault or incompatibility. Provide the following information about your hardware so we can check compatibility:
Download and install CPU-Z and Upload screenshots of the CPU, Mainboard, Memory, and SPD tabs. In the SPD tab, upload an image of each slot. To upload all screenshots, it would be best to:
  1. generate the images using the Snipping Tool,
  2. go to where the images are saved,
  3. right click in a blank area within the folder where the images are saved,
  4. create a new folder,
  5. name the folder CPUZ,
  6. select all the images,
  7. place the pointer over an image,
  8. press and hold down the left mouse button and drag the image (all images should move with it),
  9. drop the images into the CPUZ directory you created,
  10. create a compressed (zipped) folder of CPUZ
  11. upload the .zip file to the forums.
Run some memory related diagnostics:
Quote:
NOTE:
  • If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.
  • Run display device memory tests to check the display card for memory problems.
    Display device memory tests
  • Run Memtest86+ for at least 7-10 passes. It may take up to 22 passes to find problems. Make sure to run it once after the system has been on for a few hours and is warm, and then also run it again when the system has been off for a few hours and is cold.
    Test RAM with Memtest86+
  • Run Prime95 to test your CPU, RAM modules, and general hardware.

To update drivers, make sure to download the drivers from the manufacturer and not using 3rd party programs. Your drivers should be found from your motherboard support site (ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, etc.) or your vendor support site (Dell, HP, Toshiba, Sony, etc.) first. If you have devices you bought yourself, the drivers for those devices need to be downloaded from the manufacturer support site for those devices. If you need help, let us know.

To remove drivers, do so by uninstalling the device or software associated with the driver. Devices can be uninstalled through device manager, and then the device itself should be physically removed from the system if no driver updates are available for the device. If it does not make sense to remove the device, i.e. the device is a motherboard, please ask us for further assistance.
Uninstall or change a program

Open Device Manager

3rd Party Drivers:
The following is for information purposes only. My recommendations were given above. The drivers that follow belong to software or devices that were not developed by Microsoft. Any drivers in red should be updated/replaced/removed. You can find links to the driver information and where to update the drivers in the section after the code box:

Thank you for the quick response.

Can't find any of the files listed above on my system. Is there a path to check? To restate, this was a new install on a clean disk. Why would these files show up in a minidump?

Our network card is on the motherboard. It's both wireless and wired. Windows set it up as wireless, even though we have CAT-5 running to the router. We have other items using the wireless connection to the router, but both connections seem to be enabled on the desktop computer.

It's been a busy work week, I haven't had time to do the other things suggested. Hope to do that this weekend.

An additional symptom: right-clicks in the navigation pane of Windows Explorer cause Windows Explorer to stop responding and close.

All things considered, since this is a fairly young install, would it be easier to wipe the disk and start over, or, if it's a driver problem, would we just be causing the same problem when we load, say, the Nvidia and Wacom drivers, or whatever driver is causing the BSODs?

We really appreciate your help. We've had computers since 1977, never had a problem like this before. It's good to have someone to turn to.

Thank you.

My System

I would recommend re-installing Windows and installing programs one at a time, testing for a few days after each program is installed, and then installing another program. Try to determine if a piece of software is causing the conflicts. You have a number of programs installed that could be causing problems.

Before doing a clean re-install, you could try a clean boot to see if you can narrow down the problematic software that way. My first suspect would be Spyware Search and Destroy software since the crashes point to a security related issue, typically firewall or antivirus/antispyware software. We usually recommend just running with Microsoft Security Essentials to see if it provides more stability. You should also remove Daemon Tools if you have not already.

Windows 8 Clean Install
I just got my new Crucial 256 GB M4 SSD in the mail. Since my Windows 8 install is relatively new I thought I'd just go ahead and do a clean install to the new drive. In order to avoid confusion with my old install I pulled my two hard drives, leaving the M4 as the only drive in the system. I...

Not sure if infected or not
My computer froze and was hanging indefinitely, so i thought it would be prudent to run a scan. Not sure if it found anything suspicious. You be the judge. Thank you very much.
