A few weeks ago I had 2 bsod occur, one right after the pc logged in after the first bsod. The problem went away but today I have had 4 new bsod while playing a game, right after login after a bsod, and while viewing full screen video.

Using a program to view minidump files I've had possible causes including: ntoskrnl.exe x 2, wdf01000.sys, usbehci.sys x 2, USBPORT.SYS x 2, atikmdag.sys x2, dxgmm1.sys x 2.

The system has also had chains of "ATI video driver has stopped working but has recovered" - which freezes up the system for ~10 seconds and goes to a black screen.

Hi -

See if updating Asus asio.sys helps -
Code:
AsIO.sys Mon Dec 17 04:11:49 2007 (47663D55)
http://sysnative.com/0x1/DriverReference.html#AsIO.sys

ATI video named, but your ATI drivers appear current.

What is plugged in USB ports?

Regards. . .

Hi jcgriff2, thanks for the reply,

Is asio.sys updated by installing the newest version of asus pc probe? If so then I have just done that.

As for usb, I have 1 logitech usb mouse, 1 das keyboard mechanical keyboard (which takes 2 usb slots), and 1 logitech usb headset plugged into usb slots on the keyboard.

Thanks

edit: 3, and also a few lockups saying: "your display driver has stopped working"

Hi -

Is this the KB? --> Das Keyboard: The mechanical keyboard that clicks

There were issues reported under Vista; no mention of Windows 7. It does say it is PnP... no drivers required -

Das Keyboard Product Support

Have you installed any type of software specifically related to the KB? You said the KB needs 2 USB ports..? Just curious... why? (I didn't see mention during my cursory look at the site).

Do you get BSODs with a different KB?

The Logitech mouse s/b OK... I have several Logitech mice here -- all fine.

Please tell me more about the Logitech USB headset.... does it require drivers?

Which model --> Logitech - Headsets

As for the "your display driver has stopped working" error messages - sounds like 0x117 video TDR timeouts occurring (video driver unable to reset in allotted time - usually 30000ms = 30 secs, but does ultimately recover).

You did have several BSODs w/ bugcheck 0xa0000001 that named ATI video as probable cause.

Are you using any software like Skype, webcam, .... anything related to video?

Maybe better question = what is the headset for? It is possible that drivers for a video-related app are conflicting with your ATI video drivers.

Please check asio.sys timestamp - c:\windows\system32\drivers to see if it was updated.

Regards. . .

jcgriff2

Hi,

Yes that is the correct keyboard, I do not know the reasoning behind the 2 usb ports needed, the cable just splits into 2 near the end and requires both to function, no drivers were needed for the keyboard.

The headset model is the Logitech G35 Logitech - G35 Surround Sound Headset
which I bought primarily for games, it does require driver software that I have just reinstalled.

I do have skype but it hasnt been running, and I don't believe I've ever used video functionality with it on my desktop.

The asio.sys driver was indeed updated to the newest version provided by asus.

I will try and find another keyboard to use for awhile and see if the errors continue.

Thanks again for your time

Hi -

I went back through the files and found a few things. I cannot say with any degree of certainty that these items are involved in the BSODs, though.

You have Fraps installed - Fraps Real-Time Video Capture software (drivers were loaded into RAM)

- Adobe CS4 is a heavy video intensive app
- 2007 version of Google Talk installed (which is current version); some issues noted with WMP
- The G35 drivers have Oct 2010 timestamp; Logitech Support shows these to be current -
Code:
Product: G35 Surround Sound Headset software
Version: 1.01.178
Date: 10-27-2010
Platform: Windows 7
I see a literal ton of app hangs + crashes in WERCON - some are games -
- JustCause2.exe
- Steam
- CivilizationV.exe
- Oblivion.exe

I also noticed DirectX crashing; even G35.exe, Skype, Chrome, others...

The BSODs list ATI and also USB -
Code:
  X64_0xFE_INVALID_PHYSICAL_ADDR_usbehci!
It appears there is a problem with a USB device. That message likely refers to a memory address of a USB device. I don't know which device... the info is not device-specific.

There were also 216 "Live Kernel Events" - 0x117 - very similar to the 0x116 BSODs. Both are video TDR timeouts - video driver is unable to reset in the alloted time (usually 30000ms = 30 secs). 0x117 does ultimately recover; 0x116 BSODs do not.

The ATI BSODs have an "unknown bugcheck" - 0xa0000001. Run the hardware tests mentioned -
https://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...ml#post3230852

Also, run Furmark - Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark - Windows 7 Forums

You can see the crash info I mentioned for yourself, if you wish.

WERCON -
START | type view | "View all Problem Reports" | 2x-click on line item for additional crash info

Reliability Monitor -
START | type reliab | "View Reliability History"

Sorry that I don't have more definitive answers for you.

Regards. . .

jcgriff2

Hi, I ran part of chkdsk today (bluescreened on step 5/5) and during step 4/5 a ton (40-50) bad sector errors came up, and it said they could not be repaired due to insufficient disk space, of which I have plenty.

I've read that this could signal a failing hard drive. Since my hard drive is getting older, is it possible this is the cause of my errors?
