Attempted to track down a suspected faulty driver using verifier.exe resulted in multiple BSOD, although only one mini-dump file was successfully written, of the Nvidia system driver nvlddmkm.sys. I was able to deduce this as I had checked each file one by one until BSOD's occurred. However, repeated use of verifier.exe isolating this driver did not result in additional BSOD's which I found was odd. Attached is the mini-dump file of this event; any comments or suggestions would be helpful.

Background information:
Computer background info:
-OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, OEM version, purchased from Fry's Electronics.
-Motherboard: Gigabyte P55A-UD3
-Chipset: Intel i5-760
-RAM: 8gig Corsair XMS3 1600, matched latency
-HD: Seagate Barracuda 1 Tb 7200 rpm 32 Mb cache
-Video Card: NVidia GTX 460 768 MB

Have also run Memtest for 7 days trying different combination of RAM in different slots, omitting RAM, and using new RAM. There is no anti-virus loaded on this machine at this time to eliminate its possibility of causing errors as well.
I am ready to take this computer into the pool with me as its been nothing but frustration and I've never had this kind of recurring issues in 8 years of building computers.

Thank you in advance
Joe

Hi Joe -

The lone dump was VERIFIER_ENABLED, but named no 3rd party driver.
The system crashed just 10 seconds after boot-up.

Check for updated NVIDIA drivers -
Code:
nvlddmkm.sys Fri Jul 09 17:15:58 2010 (4C37918E)
Driver Reference Table - sysnative.com - MVP

Please provide full system info - maybe files will yield additional clues - Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

Memtest came up empty?

How old is the system... any warranty remaining?

OS: Windows 7 OEM

Hello John,

Attached is the ZIP file containing the files you've requested. This computer was built by me for a friend.

Full system information:
OS - Windows 7 Home Premium OEM version, x64, originally installed. OEM version was purchased at Fry's.
-Age of system, 2 months and a few days.
-OS was repair-installed about 3 weeks ago due to a BSOD causing Windows defender to not start, which was tracked down to a corrupted registry file. The repair fixed that issue.
-CPU: Intel i5-760
-Video Card: NVidia GTX 460 768 MB
-Motherboard: Gigabyte P55A-UD3
-Power supply: Coolmax 750W (679W max)
-RAM: 8gig Corsair XMS3 1600, matched latency
-HD: Seagate Barracuda 1 Tb 7200 rpm 32 Mb cache

Since writing the first message but before receiving your message, I pulled out two sticks of RAM and moved the remaining two sticks to adjacent ports to see if it makes any difference with the RAM in a different spot and operating with only 4 GB. Memtest showed no issues, but I have a difficult time believing it .

I will look into updating the driver for the Nvidia card as well. Verifier.exe is currently running, (for the past 35 minutes) with no errors.

I look forward to your findings.
Thanks
Joe

Hi Joe -

There were 16 dumps for BSODs over the last ~3 weeks -
(12) 0x1a = memory management error
(2) 0xa = driver attempted to read pageable memory (or bad memory) when IRQL too high
(1) 0x50 = invalid memory referenced
(1) 0x3b (0xc0000005,,,) = system service exception - excp = memory access violation

WERCON shows 48 BSODs dating back to 25 November 2010; some with bugchecks -
0x4e (0x99,,,) = corrupt PTE (Page Table Entry) or PFN (Page Frame Number)
0x1a = memory management error

I only found Realtek Ethernet NIC; no wifi adapter.

The fact that BSODs occurred under Driver Verifier without flagging a 3rd party driver is indicative of unknown hardware failure.

I suggest you continue to run memtest86+ - https://www.techsupportforum.com/2863029-post5.html

Also run Sea Tools for DOS on HDD - https://www.techsupportforum.com/2828431-post7.html

Hi John,

I'll give it a go and let you know what I find. For now, I've pulled two of the four sticks of RAM just to see how the machine behaves. I figure I have a 50-50 chance of pulling the right stick of RAM, since Memtest couldnt find it.

Cheers
Joe

Try the other two as well; different slots.
