OS - Windows 7 Home Premium
x64
What was original installed OS on system? Windows 7
Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? OEM Version
Age of system (hardware) Roughly a year and a half
Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS? Nope
CPU - Intel Core2Duo P8600 @ 2.40GHz each
Video Card - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
MotherBoard - Not sure where to find this out.
Power Supply - Dell AC/DC adapter 19.5V output

Ok so, I was browsing the web when my laptop suddenly restarted - on restart was greeted by a small blue square saying something like..."there is a problem, check newly installed hardware or software etc." and a line saying starting memory dump...100, i figured it for a virus at first so i restarted.

Used CCleaner to check programs opening on startup and found a few .exe's which i didnt recognise - coming from AppData/Local/Temp etc. So ran a full malware check with MalwareBytes AntiMalware - returned one of the files and removed it and i deleted the rest. On restart computer seemed to be fine - continued to work for the rest of the evening. Turned on in the morning and the same blue screen greets me, I restart again, safe mode, and check for viruses - nothing.

So I let the blue screen continue, dumps the memory and restarts. Seems to be working fine then after 20mins of browsing - blue screen again and crash. Backing my computer up now anyway.

It seems strangely intermittent, computer can run for hours with no bluescreen then suddenly crash. Also, would have done a system restore but the earliest checkpoint I could find was the previous day when the bluescreens had started occuring.

TLDR: thought it was a virus, it didnt seem to be, continue to get blue screen crashes.

Hi -

Remove Daemon Tools/ Alcohol 120.

If BSODs persist, run the Driver Verifier -- Driver Verifier - sysnative.com

Daemon/ Alcohol common driver sptd.sys is known to cause BSODs in Windows 7 & Vista.

No consistency, however.

well i had a few daemon tools lite files which i uninstalled, a similar Drive mounting program called Virtual Clonedrive which i figured might also be causing the errors so I uninstalled that as well. No crashes since... but will wait till the computer has run fine for a couple hours before throwing my hands up and doing a dance.

Agree on passage of time before declaring BSOD-free status!

Ok. BSOD's seem to have disappeared but computer restarted and now is giving a PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable and a message saying operating system cannot be found. Obviously a problem with finding the OS when it boots up. No idea what could have caused this, and not really a clue on how to fix it. I checked in setup (F2) and my hardrive seems to be present and at the top of the boot order list. Any Ideas? should I make a new thread as this problem may not be related to my BSOD.

Try detecting the HDD from your new Windows install, run data recovery programs if Windows cannot read it.

Data recovery options:

Free File & Data Recovery Software, Data Backup Software and Partition Manager Freeware in Windows and Linux - EASEUS

TestDisk - CGSecurity

Recover Files. Professional file recovery software. Recover accidentally deleted files. Undelete & Unerase, Inc.
