New folders (or previous folders) will be most welcome as we seem to be down to only a few regulars these days.

Unfortunately I had to drop out of it now, although my new(ish) graphic-card can chomp through the numbers quickly, the PCs location (in the 'knee-hole' under my desk) means the card can't exhaust the heat quick enough any more

Good luck... I gave up on this years ago since my only PC with a powerful gaming video card simply uses too much power to leave on 24/7 especially when maxed out. Got to be too $$. And the one PC I do leave on 24/7 is too busy monitoring and recording network security cams to have much left over for folding.

Not really. Just costly. New PCs and video cards on smaller microcircuits are more power efficient for a given performance level... but then they keep increasing their speed which negates some of that. Put a kill-o-watt on your rig when it is cranking at 100% on CPU and GPU to see how many watts you are pulling and then calculate the total KWh and what that cost would be if you were to run it 24/7/365. It might shock you.

Not sure where you got the idea that it needs to run 24/7.

That was the thing back in the day... rack up max points for the team. And with the PC not being used heavily it would crank those points out, indeed. I guess you could fold whilst you are doing some undemanding work. But it wouldn't amount to much if that was only an hour or 2 a day or whatever. And forget about it while gaming or doing any heavy video processing. That uses the same hardware.
