Please see the error message attached.

My microphone on my Logitech HD720P webcam is working fine.

However, when I use it to try and start a video chat in Facebook messenger, I get an error.

Click on the notification at the top left corner and allow access to the Mic.

I'll give you the Firefox version, should be a similar option on other browsers as well.

Go to Tools, Options. Privacy, look for Mic Permissions, and then click on it and choose to Enable it. Let us know if this works.

thanks tristar

I actually downloaded Firefox to test this.

There is no specific "switch" in the privacy to turn on mic, just a list of allowable web addresses.

When I went to Facebook Messenger and tried to start a Video Chat, I got a pop-up asking me to allow access to my camera and microphone.

I allowed access to both, but the same error message appeared, as in my first post.

UPDATE:

Although the cause of this has not been established, I've found a workaround.

I've installed the Facebook Messenger app, and have used this rather than FB on the web.

Both camera and microphone are now usable.

Thanks, as always, for all the support guys.

I just spent two and a half hours yesterday trying to resolve this on my Dell Tablet and finally found my issue. Although my built in mic passed all hardware tests including an interactive one recording and playing back my voice Zoom and FB messenger both failed to detect my mic.

Eventually I came across a link about checking the somewhat hidden Win 10 Security Settings (Win + q) that had my mic disabled for online use, I switched this to enable and viola it worked! Just to be clear the mic was already enabled under the sound hardware settings but disabled by default in Win 10 security settings.
