I just discovered that there is no Windows 8 driver available for my M-Audio Audiophile 2496 sound card. I assume that means there will be no Windows 10 driver either. I have no immediate plans for moving off of Windows 7, but it will happen eventually so I will need a new sound card or stick with on-board support (Realtek High Definition Audio). I'd appreciate some recomendations.

My needs are pretty simple: the card must support a MIDI cable for input and must provide analog output for a pair of studio monitors and headphones. (Anything beyond 2.0 is wasted; I don't even need 2.1, let alone 5.1 or 7.1.)

I assume the onboard sound is better than my ears at this point, but I occasionally need input from a MIDI keyboard, and my sound card has a MIDI input. I have the option of USB instead of MIDI, but there seems to be some additional latency when I use USB. (I haven't ckecked that for years. It might have been my imagination.)

You may be better off looking for a USB that supports a DAC connection. As not many sound cards will have a MIDI.
