I have an optical connection to my sound card, but only a 3.5mm jack on my speakers. I'm just wiring the 3.55mm cable to and from my speakers and sound card. I noticed that there are "digital to analog converters" that I can buy.

Will using a converter like that give me better sound, since I would be using the optical cable, than just the 3.5mm cable alone?

Thank you,
Brad

If the DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) is of higher quality than the one used on the computer audio chipset. But you aren't likely to notice much, if any difference with computer speakers. Your money is better spent on better speakers.
