I tried to install new audio drivers and followed the instructions to "uninstall old drivers first" but have lost the sound.
I have since uninstalled audio and let windows reinstal it and downloaded the correct drivers from the Dell sight but I still have no sound with the same messages of In device manager "no audio code 10" and in control panel / sound and audio " no audio devices" although it shows as on in the BIOS.

I have followed several "help" tutorials to no avail Is it possible for me to have loosened a jumper lead on the motherboard when I opened the case to replace a IDE able ?

Your help would be much appreciated

Why did you initially try to install new drivers?

And no, there are no jumpers related to audio. There are cables which connect to the front panel ports, but those wouldn't affect the audio chipset/drivers unless they were shorted.

Having said that, Code 10 indicates the drivers are not installed.

You can go to the Dell Support page to get the drivers. Either manually enter the Service Tag # or use the scan tool. > Support | Dell US

Ensure you get the correct drivers for your OS.
