So I got this new headset with mic, and I plugged it in. The only problem is, the computer doesn't recognize it. Im not so sure about that, but I know the mic doesn't work.

I dont have a sound card, just onboard audio. (SoundMax Hd Audio)

Its not something like the mic is muted, and its plugged into the appropriate spots. Headphone jack in the right place, mic in the right place. Also the headphone portion works fine.

My mixer device for recording is Soundmax Hd audio. My settings are fine I think (like its nothing like mic is checked in playback)

Note: the mic doesnt work on anything. Not xfire voice, not vent, not TS. I checked the mic settins in sound options and it ends up theres no treble control, so I dont think it even knows its there.

Any help?

My System

Hi Jordian

I have had a problem before where the sound card and other software was indicating that the speakers, or microphone was not muted, or working however in the control panel it was deactivated. Go to the control panel and check that your system is not preventing it from working. If that fails, can you try the headset on another machine, maybe its faulty?

Check the control panel by going to Control Panel/Sounds Speech and Audio Devices/Adjust the system volume/Voice/Volume and make sure it is set correctly. If it is, try the headset on another machine if possible and let us know either way and we can try to go from there.

thanks

Question

I have the same problem reported by Jordian plus non-functional audio input. My microphone works and the sound settings in the control panel seem OK.

Thanks in advance,

Hi!
I used to have those problems too. Now I am using a separate mic and a pair of good headphones. But, that doesn't solve your problem, Jordian. Sounds like you got a faulty headset - do what bigfella suggested - try it on another computer.

One quick question here... did you try plugging the mic into the front audio port, or the back one? If you haven't tried the back one, do so as the front ports may not be hooked up properly.

Also check to make sure there is a device under 'recording device' in the sound options located in the control panel.

If none of this and nothing Bigfella suggested works, try using the Line-in instead of the Mic-in.

As a last resort, try installing the sound card drivers again.

If none of this works, I'd say you probably have a faulty headset, unfortunately.

I looked at everything, it's all set fine. I'll try it on another computer, but the main problem seems to be that my computer just doesn't recognize that a mic is even connected.
