Not sure if this is a driver error, sound card error, windows 8 error, virus. figured this would be where I started please feel free to move if needed.

Some of my media players have audio. Itunes can play audio so can youtube on chrome as well as system sounds, video games. However VLC, Windows Media Player, Spotify don't. Spotify shows up on the volume mixer but VLC WMP does not.

On spotify it says, there is a problem with your sound card. Spotify can't play music.

However if I plug in the HDMI cord, audio will play on my t.v.

Also my Macafee live safe internet security won't turn on. already ran a malware software and removed some stuff. Don't know what else to do

Sounds like some event occurred that has broken a few things. Troubleshoot/resolve one at a time.

For the audio, you can try manually updating and/or reinstalling the audio drivers. The audio working over HDMI isn't a good example as most PC's use different audio chipsets for standard audio output and HDMI audio output.

As for McAfee. Assuming you have a valid license (key) or installation disc: uninstall, reboot, reinstall.
