Laptop with Wins 7 crashed with bad sectors

Managed to copy off the storage location
AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail

Now do I copy this folder to the new machine BEFORE I install Windows Live or AFTER on the new computer

Will WL pick up all the folders under the new account

Do I set up the email account first before copying ????

Thanks !

Hi -

Install WLM, set up the email account(s) and let it populate your email accounts.

Then check if any are missing before worrying about whether to copy over any emails or not.

OK

There won't be any emails to populate as they are already in the folder from the crashed computer

So I set up the email account

Then do I overwrite the existing new WLM folder with the one from the crashed computer ??

It has 1000 emails

Will that work ??

WLM is kept on Microsoft servers.

Whenever I reinstall Windows, I install WLM, create the email accounts and let WLM download/populate the email account(s).

After you set up the same exact email account, press F5 -- it should start downloading the emails.

Not sure exactly what you mean by storage folders -- that may be the difference here.

Regards. . .

Does WLM (part of Wins Live Essentials) store emails on the server AND a folder on the computer?

On the crashed computer there were many folders created in the Inbox that related to various subjects. This is what has been saved to an external HDD from the crashed computer from the Appdata folder..

Are you saying that if the emails on the server were downloaded and allowed to be repopulated, these folders would be recreated

I have created a dozen+ folders in WLM & they auto-repopulate each time I reinstall Windows.

You won't know until you try.

Install WLM mail & see what happens.

If no-go, you have the backups you made.
