Hi everyone-

After backing up my files from Vista, I
Installed Win 7 Ultimate six weeks ago.

Since then, I had to use "System Restore" about five times. The issue is that sometimes on booting, my HP desktop reverts back to "freshly installed version of Win7".

All my files , photos, bookmarks, etc are gone, so I have to use
system restore to a 'Windows Update' date.

This happened yesterday, even after booting Win 7 okay
at first, the numbers lock came on, I turned it off, and the computer reverted back to a new install of Win 7 again.

I had no problems as this with Vista.

Can anyone help me?

You can not do a fresh install of windows 7 unless you are using the disc, what do you mean by a fresh install,do you mean when system restore has complete all your files and settings have gone from what they were/?

Your system is restoring to the original state.Did you ensure you insatalled all the drivers required also did you run the upgrade advisor to check for any possible issues

Hello bro - I did use the disc. The issue keeps happening since I upgraded from Vista to Win 7

Hello joe- I did use the upgrade advisor. The only issue was one of not finding a driver for my CD/DVD device on the computer. I could never find the "Hitachi" driver I needed.
Win 7 solved that problem, as it had the driver intact.

Have you tried any methods to resolve the issue for instance sfc /scannow to check the file integrity,or chkdsk to check the harddrive or testing the ram with memtest 86+ and doing a full diagnostic on the harddrive like seatools for dos,or things like removing and reseating the ram checking any cables or connections and reseating the graphics card, and ensuring the heatsink and fan are firmly seated

Dear joe - gosh! I don't know all that stuff, but I will indeed check cables and such. I think I know how to do the sfc/scannow, and I also dl Microsoft's "Mr Fixit now" or some such thing. I will research the other things you mention. Thank you for taking the time to help me resolve this issue. lennon
