So I just picked up a Laptop (HP Compaq Presario) and turns out I'm eligible for a Windows 7 Free Upgrade Program. Awesome. I have a couple of questions:

1. First of all, is it like a CD that arrives?

2. Is it only a 1 time use CD, or is it like an official Windows 7 Disc?

3. Do I need to pay anything? I've already placed my order (Still have to upload Proof of Purchase), but the subtotal was $0.00, and they didn't ask for my credit card. I shouldn't have a bill of $50 when the item arrives..

4. Will it work on my other laptop (Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005)?

Thank you very much!

I'm not entirely sure, I just went back from Windows 7 (Build 7100) and It's an Amazing OS I believe that they will give you a direct download link and will have you varify you key and you will use their Upgrade service.

I forgot to mention, yeah it should work with all of your PCs because it's your FREE upgrade.

Most likely, If they spent the resources on the CD then It's gotta be reusable

Hello and welcome to TSF, OnlySkills!

I've ran Windows 7 since it's RC release and I was very impressed, as it was superior to Vista (which was already superior to XP) and kept it's quality and effeciency since, no problems at all.

You go to Microsofts site and download Windows 7, which comes in an .iso format, which you can burn using IMGBurn, which is free. Then, you just install it on a partition, or whereever you desire. It's free, and will be for a few months I believe, then the evalution period will be over, and you'll have to actually buy it, which I know I'll be doing.

If you don't think you're able to run Windows 7, you can always try using Windows 7 Upgrade Tool, which will anaylse your system as it stands and tell you hardware and driver wise if you're able to run Window 7 to it's full capability.

I have build 7100, which is what I linked you too, I'm unsure if any newer versions are avaliable as of now, but a quick Google seach will do some wonders, believe me.

Undocked Windy, I think he was referring to a FREE version of the REAL Windows 7 when it comes out - which is possible and legal, yes.

Anyways, all of you be aware that European users have to clean install Windows 7 and cannot upgrade, because their edition of Win 7 ships without Internet Explorer.

^^ Yes, they will send me the free copy via mail (because they asked for my shipping address) this fall when it launches (October 22, 2009). I hope that it will be the official real release, no more betas. Looks like this one will have a lot more compatibility options and a reliable source.
