Over the past week or so my computer has become incredibly slow. I've run several BitDefender scans and registry cleaners since i had originally thought it had something to do with a virus, but no luck!

I also keep getting an error message which says something along the lines of; 'host process for windows services stopped working and was closed'. This has been appearing continuously for the past few days, literally every two minutes.

I dont know much about this sort of thing so all and any kind of help is welcome!

I took a look around and realised posting a hijackthis log may help.

Thank you in advance.

Now there seems to be a more frequent error message which says 'cryptographic services has stopped working'.
Also, all my windows keep crashing and my windows vista updates are all failing.

Any ideas?

Please do not post HJT logs in Vista/ Windows 7 support.

I see both Sony & HP software in there. Which system do you have? WHich media center?

Do you have a Sony entertainment package installed or maybe a Sony media player of some kind?

No problem with the HJT log. My message was informational - for next time.

START | msinfo32 - save with NFO file ext

ZIp it up & attach to next post.

There are 100's of recent error messages.

Go into WERCON and take a look at them -
START | wercon.exe | "View problem history" - top left side

Find an entry that fits the problem here and double-click on it for add'l info

You can paste a few into a post

Hi -

How long have you been running this Vista SP1 system? I doubt for very long given this almost 3 year old Broadcom wifi card -
Code:

Driver	c:\windows\system32\drivers\bcmwl6.sys (4.102.15.61, 521.50 KB (534,016 bytes),
03/01/2007 15:43)

The same goes for your NVIDIA NForce ethernet - 2007.

What I found strange is what I see to be a mixture of Vista SP0, SP1, Windows 7 drivers in your system - and even one XP driver.

The version numbers appear to be corrupted or just plain wrong. Same with the timestamps on those drivers. If I didn't know better, I would say it looked like Vista was copied in rather than installed. If installed, I would question the media source used.

I suggest you boot with your Vista DVD and see if a repair option can help. I honestly doubt it at this stage. A re-install is most likely next.

Regards. . .

Thank you for your help. Is there any way of repairing/re-installing without losing data? Also, can i access restore points further than the ones which usually appear when i open system restore?

The HDD will be overwritten by the refreshed OS. You will have to re-install all programs. SAVE all files like docs, music, etc... They can be copied back in.

Ask anything else you would like - I didn't mean to cut it off the way it appears. Did you see the errors? I see no other way than re-install, given time and economic factors related to time.

Well, it looks like that is the only way.

Thank you for your time.
