Exclamation

I have an older Compaq laptop that usually works fine, but now when I press the power button it just lights up a few of the lights, makes an odd beeping noise and immediately turns off. Nothing appears on the display and it never goes farther than that. Iíve tried a "hard reset" and reseating the ram modules, but neither worked and I have no idea where to go from here.

Welcome nabbed_clones.

Could you mention the make and model of your laptop please and explain what the odd beeping noise is (e.g., is it a quick one beep noise, or long beep noise, or many different beeps?) Any other sounds?

(Have you tried turning on the laptop with the mains power plugged in and the battery out?).

It is a presario F700, and the beep is short and sounds like "buh". I don’t always hear it when i try to turn it on, but it always makes a "wheep" sound at the end, I think it might be the fan powering up then shutting down.

And yes I have tried turning it on with the battery out and the plug in

In these 1-2 seconds, do you get to see anything on the screen? Any images, text? Does it ever make it far enough to the windows loading bar/logo?

Nope. The screen doesn’t turn on at all, but the light on the power button and the touch pad on/off light turn on. the power and hard drive lights at the bottom-left of the computer base turn on as well

I have seen where the battery isn't holding a charge anymore and have similar results. Not all laptops I have experieced can run directy from AC but need the battery functional or they won't run.

We have a place in town called Batteries Plus that would test the laptop battery for free. Might see if you have similar in your neck of the woods
