How to avoid corrupted downloads

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, Currently awaiting Ubuntu 12.04

My System


I absolutely hate the idea of spending the time to download a large file (Like Windows 8 Consumer Preview) only to realize something went wrong.

Basically, I'm asking whether Direct Downloading or Torrenting allow for less-corrupted downloads.

I think a torrent is better for avoiding corruption, however I also have good luck using DownThemAll extension with Firefox.

The only safe way is down loading is from the manufacture/maker. Torrents and the like are a great way to get infected.
