Help please, Need to change windows 7 icons to default

Hi
My friend was using my DELL 14R and she did something and my laptop automatically gives any .exe file an adobe reader icon. When i click on it it opens normally but the lack of icons is causing chaos so please help me fast

or system restore to a point prior to the change

sad to say but your infected by a virus... the only thing you can do about it is to reformat it using its recovery. But you can't recover it in normal windows if your system is not that badly infected you can do it in safe mode.

Hi, I don't think you need to reformat just yet. As a last resort maybe, lets see if we can help you, the problem is file assoc have become mixed up. Joeten's lnk may help so give it a go.

However we should flush your Icon cache first:-

Go to Start search and type:- cmd.exe right click on the returned command prompt and select "run as administrator"

At the prompt type:- taskkill /im explorer.exe /f (press enter)
(Your desktop will go blank)

Now type each line and press enter after each line.
Note the spaces.

CD %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local

attrib -h IconCache.db

del IconCache.db

explorer.exe

If this does not work post back we can restore the default Icons through a reg mod.

Hello there, the other day whilst not really paying attention I allowed a fishy program to bypass my firewall, and it basically just shuts down any prgrm I open, and opens some fake virus software stuff. Anyways help please, I don't want to buy a new computer yet :grin:
