Hi, I don't think you need to reformat just yet. As a last resort maybe, lets see if we can help you, the problem is file assoc have become mixed up. Joeten's lnk may help so give it a go.
However we should flush your Icon cache first:-
Go to Start search and type:- cmd.exe right click on the returned command prompt and select "run as administrator"
At the prompt type:- taskkill /im explorer.exe /f (press enter)
(Your desktop will go blank)
Now type each line and press enter after each line.
Note the spaces.
attrib -h IconCache.db
If this does not work post back we can restore the default Icons through a reg mod.
