Are there any alerts against the Network Adapters in Device Manager and could you read through these Network pre-posting requirements https://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...es-573730.html

Have you checked Device Manager/Network Adapters for any yellow alerts ?

What is the AV you are using and can you get a connection when wired ?

We'll try a power cycle first.

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then:

Remove all the stored wireless network profiles and search for the network again.

How to Remove Stored Wireless Network Profiles for XP, Vista, and Windows 7

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found here's how.

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL and press enter.

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB drive, or a CD-R disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

then please Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.

I don't know what you've done to get all that lot from just an ipconfig /all, but go back to access the cmd prompt and this time right click on it and select Run as Administrator, then at the cmd prompt type sfc /scannow - noting the space before the forward slash.

Depending on what that reports, I think you may have to visit the Virus & Trojan section and open a thread there to have your system checked out.

Alright then

A couple of things to try before updating the wireless driver.

Right click on the wifi icon in the Taskbar and run the Troubleshooter.

Try a Restore point to before this occurred.

Remove the battery and AC cord then hold the power button in for ~40secs.

Log into the router and temporarily disable the WPA security.

I don't think it's Sophos as you probably wouldn't get any connection, but you could try it with the AV aspect of that disabled and perhaps a scan with either Spybot or the free version of Malwarebytes Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer

Enter your Service Tag and download the wireless driver for your laptop Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]

I was going to ask about a switch but from your opening post, you said it was suddenly - but glad you got it sorted.
