Chrome, Firefox, IE won't start after trying Samsung Kies and Kies Mini. Opera will

I've posted this same topic in the networking forum but I think this subforum might be better. Mods can delete the other one.

Yesterday I read about a new firmware update for my Samsung Galaxy S3, and I decided to install Kies on my laptop so I could get it (for many Galaxy S3 users in the Netherlands that day, Over The Air updates didn't work).

First I tried the browser version of Kies, saw nothing about updates so I downloaded and installed Samsung Kies, but that didn't work either. I watched a help video inside the program which was run with Java (I had to install that too, yet I believed I already had it, but I clicked ok anyway)

I didn't have my USB cable with me to connect my phone to the program and it didn't work via wireless either. So I uninstalled it and tried Kies Mini, that didn't work either so I uninstalled that one too, and then had to reboot.

Wanting to resume my work on a website, I wanted to see how it looked in Chrome, Firefox and IE but noticed NONE of them start up. The process starts and stops in half a second.

Here's a list of things I tried:

1. System Restore up to the point of AFTER installing Samsung Kies (unfortunately I couldn't go back any further)
2. Uninstalled Chrome, Firefox, Samsung Kies, Kies Mini and Java.
3. Reinstalled Chrome, Firefox, Samsung Kies, Kies Mini and Java.
3. Ran Spybot Search and Destroy, found nothing big, no trojans or anything.
4. Deleted as many mentions of the keywords Chrome, Firefox and Kies in the registry, both with Windows' registry search and a tool.
5. Try to open Internet Explorer with no add-ons via the System Tools folder in the start menu.
6. Looked in Process Explorer for hijacked processes. I'm not an expert on this so maybe I don't even know what to look for.
7. Ran the Uninstall and Cleanup exe's from this page. I don't even know if they did anything, just saw a cmd window pop up for not even half a second.

There's one peculiar thing though: If I click enough times on the icons of Chrome or Firefox, they eventually start. I'd say about 5 to 10 seconds of nonstop clicking. This doesn't work with IE.

Other thing worth mentioning: Samsung Kies was downloaded from Samsung's website, Kies Mini I got from Softpedia

And lastly here's my HijackThis Log. I ran it just now, in normal Windows mode.

Hi, yes Revouninstaller advanced mode, is a good option. Your post:-

7 Ran the Uninstall and Cleanup exe's from this page. I don't even know if they did anything, just saw a cmd window pop up for not even half a second.
I Cannot access these without joining, however from what you said I would right click on the executables before running and select "properties" make sure if you see "UnBlock" click this to unblock the program, then right click on the executable again and select "run as administrator".

HJK is no longer suitable for windows seven, if you suspect a virus post at our security forum.

I have no such thing as an unblock checkbox. I think that only appears if I have the Windows Firewall running.

Same behavior as in normal mode.

But like I said, clicking for 10 seconds nonstop will make Chrome and Firefox open. Both in normal and safe mode.

Hi, nothing to do with what you run, developers (especially the craftier ones) will place a block on an executable (Sysinternals for eg) to stop unauthorized copy. To run many programs now, you need to right click the executable select properties and under the general tab click on "Unblock" to execute the program. The flash by cmd window is what you see if this is the case... did you bother to look?

Held off on the reinstall because I still have some work to do on various programs.

Anyway, yesterday I wanted to download WAMP, but on the download page I accidentally clicked on the new .NET framework install instead of WAMP. When the setup began, I noticed I could either repair or reinstall it. I hit repair.

I guess I messed that up when I tried out the Samsung Kies programs.

The browsers work again. :)
