I have recently wanted to reinstall Vista on my Advent 7201 notebook.

I shut it down and tried to start the process of pressing F8 as the notebook started up, in order to start the reinstall process. But nothing happened. I haven't been able to reinstall windows at all. I tried to make a reinstall disc but it still doesn't work. I have reinstalled windows before and it was fine. Any ideas what to do?

As far as I'm aware I'm running SP2.

Hi -

Are you sure it's F8? It could be something else, every computer is different (brand, model, etc) and they all have different types of BIOS.

Have you previously entered the BIOS?

Hi -

Can you re-install the OS from your CD-ROM drive in Windows?

No. I was not given a reinstall disc and when I tried to create one it didn't work.

When I press F10 I get a black screen with this:

Quote:
Edit Boot Options
Edit Windows Boot Options for: Micrsoft Windows Vista

Path: \windows\system32\winload.exe
Hard Disk: 6f61df32

[ /NO EXECUTE=OPTIN

]

ENTER=SUBMIT ESC=CANCEL
Any ideas anyone?

Hi -

So let me get this straight - there's NO way you can even get into Windows? Weird. Your MBR is corrupt?

Hi -

Good, Good.

Download Easy BCD, Install, Run, Repair MBR (Master Boot Record).

Reboot.

Now try.

Hi -

It wouldn't be a bad idea to "backup settings" as well.
