PSUs In The Cold

This is a discussion on PSUs In The Cold within the RAM and Power Supply Support forums, part of the Tech Support Forum category. Not really a problem for me, just an observation. Might be a problem for somebody somewhere though. I rigged up

Not really a problem for me, just an observation. Might be a problem for somebody somewhere though.

I rigged up an old PSU (150W or so) in the garage for a power supply to test things with. Jumped a toggle switch across the leads to turn it on and off. Works fine.

But I notice that when the ambient temperature falls below some level, the PSU comes on by itself, and will stay on no matter what until the temperature rises again.

No biggy for me, but what if someone keeps a PC in an area that gets cold?

Or this this just an anomaly?

You are probably getting condensation on the inside of the switch you rigged up and without enough current draw to burn it off it will make a connection.
