Having some trouble with memory /graphics card. I'm currently running an Intel(R) board D915GAG.Pentium 4 with Hyper threading technology.
have a gig of memory on the board. ( 2 512 MB sticks DDR 400) My concern is, I removed an old graphics card, and when I did I noticed that when I ran a dxdiag check, that it was only listing I had 1022 MB. being I have two 512 sticks, shouldn't this read 1024 ? I also noticed that on device manager, after uninstalling old card, it was saying I only had .99 memory. yet when I installed the new card, device manager read 1.0 gig of memory. is this a sign of a problem ?

I am also wanting to upgrade my memory being I am a gamer. I rely of course on graphics card for memory for game. Card has 512 mb DDR 2. However , I am wanting to get sufficient memory for system alone (least 2 gigs) so that I can use onboard graphics for gaming in the event my grahics card becomes bad. Could some one help me with maybe pointing me into the right direction to go ? maybe tell me which memory would be the best for what I am wanting ?

Integrated graphics will use some of the ram as dedicated memory and may explain the difference you're seeing.

Thank you for responding. Ordered a "kit" from a link you posted.
Thanks again for the feedback.

I will let you know.According to amazon, I won't receive it till Feb. 9th. I will let you know. I was wandering though, with the memory I already have installed in my machine , (DDR 400 CL3, made by avant technology) also work with Crucial 2 GB Kit (2 x 1GB) DDR PC3200 UNBUFFERED NON-ECC 184-PIN DIMM ? ( The new memory I bought tonight ).

As long as the current memory is standard (Avant doesn't make memory, they just rebrand someone elses) then yes it will work, I don't see a reason for it not to.

Hi. Finally have installed the new memory. On System properties it is now reading 2.37 Gigabytes of ram.In DirectX diagnostic tool it is reading 2430 mb of ram. Are these two readings meant to read "differently" ? I have installed a pci express card for gaming. Onboard graphics disabled in bios. Everything seems to be runing smoothly other wise. I'm happy. Thanks for the help.

My System

It's to do with the way gigabytes and megabytes are measured. They use 1024mb/gb instead of 1000, so divide 2430MB by 1024 and you get 2.37GB.
