Hi I have a quick question. My computer sometimes takes a while to POST at the memory test step. Maybe 30-50% of the time. Does this sound like a memory issue or a MOBO issue or is it even possible to tell at this point? I could try the other 2 unused memory banks if it would be worth my time. If it sounds like a memory issue I could invest a small amount of money replacing the memory.
Thanks!
It hangs during the memory test step of BIOS POST, I am not using a memory diagnostic here. Sometimes that step takes 5-10 seconds sometimes even longer. I have attached a picture. Thanks!
Screenshot indicates memory (RAM) is probably fine but is taking some time detecting IDE/ATA drives.
A PC of this age is more likely to have SATA drives, if there are no IDE/ATA drives, you could disable the IDE channels in the BIOS to save a little Boot time.
@Corday what codes? @starow That screenshot does not reflect where the pause is. It is inconsistent but when it does pause it is before the Memory Testing line. So it says Main Processor then CPUID then it pauses before Memory Testing.
@Wrench97 The BIOS is currently configured to quick boot. It doesn't actually do a count up. I'll check to be sure but it doesn't count from 0 up to full. Also the pause is not consistent at all.
If I remember correctly from your other thread you have 2 SSD's and a WD green drive installed?
Try unhooking all except the drive windows is installed on and see if the boot time improves
the WD Green drives were notorious for awhile there about slow spin up times.
Motherboard, cpu, memory, and psu all could have something to do with this for certain reasons. If I were you the very first thing I would have done is go to mobo site and see if any new bios are available and what if anything they fix but this sounds like a simple bios setting should fix it either too many impossible boot devices listed or bios looking for devices not there as well as new bios which might target error. Is bios set for Windows or "other OS" can make a difference etc...
@Rich-M I think I'll try flashing the BIOS I remember a long time ago I think I flashed it then went to standby then it freaked out luckily I had dual BIOS on the mobo. The BIOS flashing utility is 16-bit... any idea the best way to flash? My Win 10 is 64 bit and won't run the utility. Thanks
Gigabyte boards usually have a Q Flash utility in bios. If you download trhe newer bios to flash drive and then go intoi bios Q Fl;ash utility to install it. If bios doesn't have that and not all motherboards have the Q-Flash, please use @BIOS or DOS flash utility to update BIOS if your motherboard does not have Q-Flash. In order to use @BIOS you must first install the Gigabyte App.
