AC adapter not recognized

I have a dell inspiron 1501. on start-up I get an error message saying that the ac adapter is not recognized and that the battery will not charge. this has been going on since I got this laptop 2 years ago, but the computer always charged the battery. now the battery is not chargeing. according to dell, I have the correct charger/power supply

Perhaps the battery has failed? You really should have addressed the error message issue with Dell while it was under warranty.

i agree with tyree, sounds like your battery died. even though the newer batteries dont need this, pull the battery out and let it fully discharge, then try and charge it. at this point, you have nothing to lose.
