Hey all, I'm finally getting around to a project a year or two in the making, and trying to figure out the best sort of design software to use.

In essence, I'll be making a site that's easily updated with new content, with ability to have a categorized index of topic, and member forums.

I've looked around a bit at a few options, and played with Drupal a little, but found it not quite what I want in the frequent-update-friendliness section. It seems like perhaps a blogging software would be best, but usually I see them sorted only by date. Is there one out there that allows a custom organized index?

Free is great, but paying for quality software is always worthwhile.

Thank you for any and all help with this!

-K

WordPress is a very powerful CMS/Blogging software that can be customized any way you like. You can find some nice themes for it as well.

Yes, Wordpress are popular for that scenario. Everyone uses it. But I still go for Joomla for effective production.
