Hi,

Recently I started to receive this message immediately after Windows boots. I did the backup and found some threads on this forum regarding this problem.
I ran HDDScan and here are results:

WDC WD2500BEVT-22A23T0-WD-WX70A8905309-SMART.mht

Report By: HDDScan for Windows version 3.3

It shows red X at Reallocation sector count and yellow exclamation mark on Reallocation Event Count. I ran HDD scan once in a while in two weeks and the error count is not rising. How bad is this error? Can I do something about it?
Also, it seems to me that hard disk is working slower since the message started to appear. Can I do some kind of marking of bad sectors or something like this to isolate the error?
How can I stop the message from reappearing except to click "Don't ask me about this problem again (not recommended)"? Since this is not recommended :)

Thanks for help,

Miro

The drive could be starting to fail so copy all important data of it as soon as poss. to a different drive or optical disks.

Now test the drive with the maker's own diagnostic software which doesn't just rely on the SMART data you've posted above. It provides the option of a long test to check specific parts of the drive which the drive needs to pass to be considered safe to use.

The Western Digital diagnostic software is called "Data Lifeguard Diagnostic" available in both DOS (bootable CD) version or a Windows installable version. The direct download links are on this page: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

Remember to run the Long Test on the drive to ensure it's tested thoroughly. If it fails, replace it rather than take any chances with it.

Hi, thanks for the answer.

I downloaded Western Digital Data LifeGuard Diagnostics and ran Extended test. Here is the result:

Test Option: EXTENDED TEST Model Number: WDC WD2500BEVT-22A23T0 Unit Serial Number: WD-WX70A8905309 Firmware Number: 01.01A01 Capacity: 250.06 GB SMART Status: FAIL Test Result: PASS

So it says here that Result is Pass. I guess it's safe to use the disk then.

If I run Quick test, it failes for some reason. It seems to me like it's some strange error, not directly related to disk.

Test Option: QUICK TEST Model Number: WDC WD2500BEVT-22A23T0 Unit Serial Number: WD-WX70A8905309 Firmware Number: 01.01A01 Capacity: 250.06 GB SMART Status: FAIL Test Result: FAIL Test Error Code: 06-Quick Test on drive 1 did not complete! Status code = 04 (Unknown failed test element), Failure Checkpoint = 96 (Unknown Test) SMART self-test did not complete on drive 1!

Smart test gives the same error as HDD scan - Reallocated Sector Count
