wondering which raid to use if any,im trying to work out what option is best for me,thinking of either not raiding at all and just use one hdd for data back up and then image the primary drive for recovery if needed,i got a habit for messing windows up and having to reinstall everything so if i do a raid and i mess it up can it still be recovered back easy without reinstalling everything or could i image the raid and recover if needed.

If you tend to "mess windows up" then a Raid set up would not help, since the raid (raid 1) would only mirror your "messed up windows" and offer no help. Using the other drive for an image of a fresh install of windows and as a data back up for important data on a seperate partition would allow you a quick recovery from a crashed installation and keep your data safe. IMHO
