Western Digital 1.0TB sata 8mb Cache [WD10EAVS] external hard drive issue.

Hello everybody,

I foolishly forced a power cord into my external HD (I seen a bright flash) and ever since it will not work.

I can plug correct power cord in and the little light at the front will light up (yellow) however hard drive is silent and is not recognised by computer.

I'm guessing the part of drive that spins (makes noise) is damaged, Am i correct?

Can this be fixed?
Could I fix myself?
Would it be expensive to fix?
Will data be damaged?

Your help and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Rory

Before connecting directly, post a pic of the component side of the PC Board of teh drive. It's most likely the TVS diode on teh PC board was fried. If that is the case, then you would throw a short on the PSU if you connected it directly without checking it out first. Most enclosures have little to no overvoltage proection in the bridge board electronics allowing the TVS diode to take the damage
