hi i have had my wd passport for ages but it has recently stopped working and when I plug it in it says the device is unrecognized can any one help??

Ummm passport is a drive type :) Can you feel the disk spin up? Can you try it in another machine? Is this the stock USB cable? If this is a bus powered device i.e. not using a separate power suupply - does it have a Y type USB cable and are you plugging both plugs into a USB port?
